6 things to do that will immediately make you feel better

We’ve all had one of those really bad days, when we don’t want to get out of bed, we aren’t motivated to do anything useful and we feel like a big, giant mess. And that’s ok! We have to allow ourselves, from time to time, to recharge, letting our minds quiet down for a bit and taking a step back from our daily lives is one of the most effective ways to regain control over our lives and start over with a fresh healthy mindset. Here’s a list of a few things you can do right now to make you feel better.

  1. Put on the silliest smile you are capable of
  2. Listen to music (happy music)
  3. Take a shower
  4. Complete a small task
  5. Watch something funny
  6. Remember you don’t owe anyone perfect

Put on the silliest smile

Did you know that smiling can trick our brain into thinking that we are happy even when we aren’t?  If you are skeptical go ahead and try it, go in front of a mirror, and start smiling. If you don’t feel it working try a silly smile, stick your tongue out, and wave both your hands. You can’t remain serious after that!

Listen to some happy music

Music can do wonders for your mood. You need to choose a happy, rhythmic song to help you fight the blue devils. If you can, get up and dance a little,  show off your best dance moves, and sing along. Or if you don’t feel like it, simply close your eyes and let music do its magic. If you need some inspiration here are five great songs:

Take a shower

If you can, take a quick shower. Feeling water on your skin will make you feel refreshed, and you will feel more put together, giving you a sense of accomplishment. If you have the time, do your skincare routine. It doesn’t have to be something fancy, just put on some moisturizer and lip balm and you are good to go.

Complete a small task

When we are sad and unmotivated, we often can’t help feeling like we are wasting time. To avoid that, try to complete a small task. Something that will not only make tomorrow easier but will help you to feel better now.  The task itself is not important, you could scrub the bathroom sink, wash the dishes, or fold laundry but it is key to choose something small to complete it right away.

Watch something funny

TV shows and movies help us escape reality, and comfort us like nothing else. Never underestimate the power of the right Friends episode! If you need some inspiration click here to see our ultimate list of shows to watch whenever you need a good laugh.

Remember you don’t owe anyone perfect

Understanding that is normal to have bad days will help you get over them faster. Here is something that Kerry Washington said that sums up this article perfectly:

‘I realized that I don’t have to be perfect. All I have to do is show up and enjoy the messy, imperfect, and beautiful journey of my life.’.
